Middle and High Veterinary Science

Is your teen or pre-teen interested in veterinary medicine? Join us for a hands on class with our owner and veterinarian to learn about livestock medicine with our goats, sheep, alpacas, chickens, and pigs. We will proper handling, physical exam techniques, how to give medications, and discuss disease control. Classes are for students 11years and older.

Max 10 students

$15 per student, classes last approximately 3hrs

MAY: ​Regenerative Agriculture

Come learn about soil science, natural pest management, and other organic and regenerative practices on the farm. We will meet the farm animals and learn how their manure is used in composting, make different teas for feeding and treating plants, and learn about companion planting and natural pest management. Classes will take 1.5-2hrs. Max 15 students per class. 
 

$15 per student; must have 1 adult present per family.

JUNE: Farm To Fabric

Come learn how to turn alpaca and sheep fiber into felt fabric through a process called wet felting. We have two levels of difficulty for our felted projects- our Thursday class (Ages 4+ years) will make felted pictures and our Friday class (Ages 11years+) each student will make a small handbag from fiber grown on our farm. Afterwards, we will meet and feed the goats, sheep, and alpacas. Classes lasts approximately 2 hours. Please wear clothes that can get wet as the process involves soap and water. 

$15 per student; must have one adult present per family.

Younger siblings are welcome to attend, felting supplies are only provided for students.

JULY: Tasting the Rainbow: Harvesting the Bounty of the Garden

Come tour the farm and learn how we grow our fruits and veggies. We will take a walking tour of the garden to look at how we grow, learn how to identify ripe produce, discuss how to safely harvest, and pick a variety of fresh produce as available (tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, green beans). Students are given a small harvest tray for pick-your-own where they can take home their favorites from the harvest. We will end our harvest tour in the watermelon patch where we will learn how to pick the perfect melon and learn how to make watermelon sorbet. Afterwards we will stop to meet the animals that call the farm home and bring some fresh garden snacks to the pigs. Classes last 2-3 hours. Please wear closed toe shoes.

$15 per student (Ages 4+years); must have 1 adult present per family.

AUGUST: Food for the Future: Seed Saving and Food Preservation

This month we will discuss the importance of seed saving and food preservation. We will start by touring the garden, discussing how and when to harvest, collecting fresh produce. We will then take our harvest and demonstrate how to collect and store seeds for growing next year. Afterwards we will learn different ways of preserving the harvest to enjoy throughout the year- drying, canning, pickling. Students will be able to take home seeds for next years garden. Classes lasts approximately 2-3 hours. Please wear closed toe shoes. 

$15 per student (ages 4+years); must have 1 adult present per family.

FEBRUARY: Fiber Animals
Come learn about the alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs, and dogs at K and T Farms. We will meet and feed the animals, learn about what makes them unique, and learn about how the fiber from the animals is processed into yarn and other products. Each student will make and take home their own craft made from alpaca and sheep wool. Classes will take approximately 2 hours. Max 15 students per class.

Cost $15 per student, no charge for parents (up to 1 adult per child). Must have 1 adult per family. Siblings under 2  years old free (no craft included)
 



MARCH: Grow a Garden
 

Come learn about growing plants and start a vegetable garden for your home. We will meet the farm animals and learn how their manure is used in composting. Students will learn about different composting methods, seed starting, and sustainable farming. Each student will start seedlings in a mini--greenhouse to take home for their own vegetable garden. Classes will take 1.5-2hrs. Max 15 students per class. 
 

$15 per student; must have 1 adult present per family.

Ages 4yrs+

Siblings under 4 are free to attend, supplies for activities will be provided for students only
