Farm Classes

Beginner Gardener

Come learn how to grow your own fruits and vegetables. We will tour our market garden and explore natural and regenerative practices for soil improvement, pest and disease control, and how to grow plants from seed to harvest. We will also discuss seed saving, cloning plants, teas and sprays for feeding and treating, and companion plants. Growing methods we will look at include hugelkulture, container gardening, and KNF. Classes last approximately 4 hours. All students will receive a packet with information discussed in the class. Please wear closed toe shoes. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are welcome to bring their own lunch.

Preserving the Harvest

In this homestead class we will explore different methods for preserving the harvest including lacto-fermenting, dehydrating, and water-bath canning. We will start in the market garden harvesting fresh produce then practice with three recipes for using and saving our harvest.

Raising Livestock

Come learn how to raise a variety of livestock- goats, sheep, alpacas. We will discuss safe handling, first aid, common ailments, medication administration, housing, nutrition, parasite management, and breeding. This course is led by our owner and on-site veterinarian. Classes last approximately 6 hours. Students will receive a packet with information discussed in the class. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are welcome to bring their own lunch.

Raising Chickens for Meat and Eggs

Come learn how to raise chickens for meat and eggs. We will discuss chicken tractors, nutrition and alternative feed options to reduce costs, handling, first aid, and varying needs at different life stages. We will end with a demonstration of butchering of a meat bird. Classes last approximately 4 hours. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are welcome to bring their own lunch.

Fiber Classes

Felt Bag on a Balor Felted Clutch Bag Class

This class focuses on taking alpaca and sheep fiber into a finished piece through a process called wet felting.  Each student will design, create, and finish a purse complete with a woven or knitted handle all made from fiber grown on our farm. Afterwards, guests are welcome to meet and feed the goats, sheep, and alpacas. Classes last approximately 6 hours. Snacks from the garden and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are encouraged to bring a lunch. Please wear clothes that can get wet as the process involves soap and water.

Felted Basket/Bowl on a Ball

This class focuses on taking alpaca and sheep fiber into a finished piece through a process called wet felting.  Each student will design, create, and finish a bowl using a relief mold and fiber grown on our farm. Afterwards, guests are welcome to meet and feed the goats, sheep, and alpacas. Classes last approximately 6 hours. Snacks from the garden and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are encouraged to bring a lunch. Please wear clothes that can get wet as the process involves soap and water.

Felted Christmas Stocking

This class focuses on taking alpaca and sheep fiber into a finished piece through a process called wet felting.  Each student will design, create, and finish a felted stocking made from fiber grown on our farm. Afterwards, guests are welcome to meet and feed the goats, sheep, and alpacas. Classes last approximately 4 hours. Snacks from the garden and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, guests are encouraged to bring a lunch. Please wear clothes that can get wet as the process involves soap and water.

Felted Christmas Ornaments

Fun for all ages! In this 2 hours class we will learn the basics of wet felt a Christmas ornament using alpaca and sheep wool. Afterwards we will meet the goats, sheep, and alpacas that call the farm home.
